Sony appears ready to launch its first LCD TVs with RGB LED backlight, likely under a new 'True RGB' banner in 2026.
As spotted by The Walkman Blog, Sony trademarked 'True RGB' in Japan and Canada in October.
FlatpanelsHD has verified the filing. In Canada, 'True RGB' is registered exclusively for "LED displays, television sets and televisions" (link), making it clear that the term is intended for TVs.
Sony's 2026 TVs
FlatpanelsHD has already seen Sony's impressive RGB LED technology and published a first look article in March, detailing benefits such as improved color volume, wider viewing angles and higher energy efficiency.
While Samsung is branding its RGB LED technology as 'RGB microLED', Sony has yet to confirms its marketing strategy for this new type of LCD TVs.
Sony's first RGB LED LCD models are expected to arrive in 2026. Supply chain checks suggest that both Bravia 7 II and Bravia 9 II are planned to feature RGB LED technology in sizes ranging from 50 to 115 inches.

RGB LED LCD vs. OLED
FlatpanelsHD has reported details about Samsung's 2026 TV lineup, while there is speculation about LG's 2026 OLEDs. TCL has officially announced its first 2026 model.
Sony is sticking to its dual-technology approach, offering high-end LCD TVs alongside OLED TVs (both WOLED and QD-OLED).
At least some 2026 models from the leading TV brands will be announced next month at CES 2026 in Las Vegas.
True (micro) LED TVs – without the LCD panel – remain prohibitively expensive and are still assembled from smaller modules with visible seams.
