HBO Max has confirmed that it will expand to major European countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland on January 13, and to the UK and Ireland in March.
The streaming service is already available in over 100 territories worldwide, including many European countries, but partnerships with existing broadcasters have held up plans in some of the largest European countries.
In an announcement, the company said that it will now complete its European rollout.
- "We are thrilled to bring HBO Max and the stories that stick with you to new countries across Europe this January," said JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery. "With our strongest line-up of U.S. and local HBO series yet, blockbuster local and international movies and the Olympic Winter Games, it is the perfect time to make HBO Max available directly to subscribers. It has never been easier to enjoy the most talked-about series, hit movies, unmissable live sports and extraordinary real-life stories."
The move comes ahead of a potential sale of Warner Bros Discovery, with reports claiming that companies such as Paramount and Netflix are interested in acquiring the historic film studio and HBO.
In January and March
On January 13, 2026, HBO Max will launch in Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein, with registration opening in early January.
Soon after, in March 2026, HBO Max will expand to the UK and Ireland, where the launch has long been held back due to an agreement with Sky. HBO content will remain available on Sky after the launch.
