LG unveils its first 'Micro RGB' LCD TVs

16 Dec 2025 | Rasmus Larsen |

LG has today unveiled its first LCD TVs with RGB LED backlights; MRGB95B in sizes up to 100 inches. LG will also launch a cheaper MRGB85B range and the MRGB9M.

With Samsung, Sony, Hisense and TCL all rumored to launch RGB LED LCD models in 2026, LG is first out of the gate to announce its models.

LG will be calling them 'Micro RGB evo', but expect to see these kinds of RGB LED LCD TVs announced under various marketing names in the coming weeks and during CES.

Alpha 11 comes to LCD TVs

In its announcement, LG said that its flagship LCD TV will feature "more than a thousand dimming zones" in its RGB LED backlight. Some of the most advanced zone-dimming LCD TVs from competitors feature more than 20,000 zones. LG is also bringing its most advanced processor from its OLED TVs, the Alpha 11, to its top LCD TVs. - "The engine driving this performance is the newly upgraded Dual AI Engine-based α (Alpha) 11 AI Processor Gen 3, which features Dual Super Upscaling to simultaneously process two types of AI upscaling," announced LG.

100 percent HDR color

In addition, LG is promising 100% coverage of Rec.2020 colors, which is the standard used in HDR formats like HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. No 2025 LCD or OLED TVs can deliver color coverage this high; however, movies, series and games are generally mastered for the smaller DCI-P3 gamut. - "This immense processing power enables RGB Primary Color Ultra, a breakthrough that delivers a full spectrum of color reproduction. Driven by this technology, LG Micro RGB evo achieves an outstanding range, certified by Intertek for 100 percent color gamut coverage in BT.2020, DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB – the highest possible color reproduction," claims LG.

Three RGB LED ranges up to 100"

LG formally announced only MRGB95B, which will be available in 75, 86 and 100 inches, but FlatpanelsHD has learned that the company is also planning MRGB85B and MRGB9M ranges. MRGB9M will feature a wireless connect box (ZeroConnect), which has been redesigned for 2026, and many high-end features. MRGB85B will be a range of cheaper RGB LED LCD TVs that are edge-lit and with somewhat downgraded video features. Update: LG will calls this 'mini RGB'. All three will come with webOS 26, which introduces a more personal 'My Page' homescreen along with 'AI' features. FlatpanelsHD will be bringing you much more information during CES 2026 in early January where LG will also announce its 2026 OLED TVs. - "Achieving the utmost visual fidelity is the goal of any display, and with the LG Micro RGB evo, we have achieved a milestone previously thought impossible for this category," said Park Hyoung-sei, president of LG Media Entertainment. "This launch marks the evolution of the RGB TV, redefining industry standards to offer uncompromising performance for customers who demand exceptional color accuracy."
