Asus introduces micro-OLED gaming glasses: 'A 171" 240Hz virtual screen'

05 Jan 2026 | Rasmus Larsen |

Would you replace your gaming monitor or TV with gaming glasses? In partnership with Xreal, Asus is launching gaming glasses with 1080p micro-OLED displays.

Like Apple Vision Pro and Samsung Galaxy XR, Asus' glasses use micro-OLED displays. This is a major difference to Meta's Quest headsets that all use subpar, low-resolution LCD panels.

Unlike Apple and Samsung's headsets, the Asus Xreal R1 are glasses that weight only 91 grams. They do not cover your field of view but do not block out light either. They also have far lower resolution at 1080p.

Asus teased the announcement ahead of CES 2026 saying that with this upcoming product you do not need a bigger desk. This is true but you still need a powerful gaming PC or console to connect the glasses to via USB-C or the bundled HDMI / DisplayPort dock. - "The glasses' 57° field of view (FOV) gives you a spacious virtual image as well as a good look at the real world, enabling you to see more and do more. This FOV means that using the ROG XREAL R1 glasses is like sitting in front of a whopping 171-inch display from four meters away. Whether you’re playing blockbusters or watching them, you’ll have the massive screen you need to properly enjoy the biggest entertainment," announced Asus. They support up to 240Hz at 1080p resolution on the micro-OLED displays. The virtual display can either follow your head or remain fixed in place with the Anchor Mode.

Asus's Xreal R1 glasses will launch in the first half of 2026 but the price has not yet been confirmed. At CES 2026, Xreal separately launched new 1S glasses that feature 1200p 120Hz micro-OLED to virtualize an up to 500-inch screen. These also support 2D-to-3D conversion. The Xreal 1S cost $449 / €499.
