At CES 2026, TCL confirmed that the Xbox Game Pass app with cloud gaming is coming to Google TV later this year – at least to TCL Google TVs.
The Xbox Game Pass app is already available on newer LG Smart TVs, Samsung Smart TVs and select Amazon Fire TV models as well as mobile devices and through web browsers.
The app lets you stream the latest games directly to your TV over the internet using a wireless game controller – no physical Xbox console required. You need an Xbox Game Pass subscription or compatible purchased game titles.
Xbox Game Pass on Google TV
The rollout of Xbox Game Pass to TV platforms has been long and frustrating. While the reasons remain unclear, it appears likely that it is tied to exclusivity agreements.
So it is about time that Google TV is getting the Xbox app.
"This is an Xbox," says Microsoft about all devices with the Xbox app
We are still waiting for official confirmation from Microsoft or Google, so it remains unclear whether the app will be available from the start on all Google TV devices, including Chromecast and Google TV Streamer, or initially limited to TCL Google TVs. TCL has confirmed the app for its X11L flagship, which is the only 2026 model announced so far at CES 2026.
TCL stopped short of giving a more precise launch window, saying only that the app will arrive in 2026.
Limited to 1440p SDR
Microsoft recently made changes to Xbox Game Pass, including cloud gaming in all subscription tiers. However, Xbox cloud gaming is still limited to a maximum of 1440p in SDR.
You cannot get 4K, HDR, Dolby Atmos or 120Hz, even if you are willing to pay extra.
You can check which TV models already offer the Xbox app in the TV Database.
