Peacock first streamer to commit to Dolby Vision 2

06 Jan 2026 | Rasmus Larsen |

Not Netflix, Disney, Apple or HBO. Peacock is the first streaming service to commit to Dolby Vision 2. It will also begin streaming live sports in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Four months after the announcement of Dolby Vision 2, the first confirmed distribution partner has emerged.

It is not the name we expected but the move appears to be part of a broader technology deal between Dolby and NBCUniversal, whose Peacock streaming service is available in North America.

- "Continuing its commitment to delivering the best possible fan experience, Peacock is extending the availability of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos across live sports over the coming year. Peacock is also the first streamer to announce its commitment to support Dolby Vision 2 and Dolby AC-4, anticipated to launch later this year," announced Peacock.

What, where, when?

The announcement is light on details regarding Dolby Vision 2. All that is confirmed is that content will arrive later in 2026 on Peacock, leaving the door open for another streaming service, such as Netflix, to slide in and take the lead. Neither Dolby nor Peacock confirmed any Dolby Vision 2 titles or commented on compatible devices. Also read: All our Dolby Vision 2 questions, answered

At CES 2026, Hisense announced support for Dolby Vision 2 via a later firmware update, while TCL announced support for Dolby Vision 2 Max, also coming through a firmware update. Peacock will also begin using Dolby’s AC-4 audio codec, which the company says is up to 50% more efficient than traditional codecs. Most streaming services today use either Dolby AC-3 or e-AC-3 (for 5.1 and Atmos). AC-4 supports dialog enhancement and personalization features, too.

Live sports in Dolby Vision & Atmos

For live sports, Peacock said it will onboard events with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio throughout 2026. Dolby Vision helps expand the picture's dynamic range, revealing more detail in both bright and dark areas, particularly when parts of the pitch are shaded by clouds. HDR's wider color gamut will also help produce richer colors, including for the first time grass green. Dolby Atmos will enhance the stadium and crowd atmosphere. Peacock confirmed Dolby Vision and Atmos for Sunday Night Football, NBA and MLB. It remains unclear whether live sports will use standard Dolby Vision or Dolby Vision 2. More details are expected closer to launch.
