Cheaper OLED SE panels to debut in 2026 TVs up to 83"

28 Jan 2026 | Rasmus Larsen |

Alongside upgraded Tandem WOLED and OLED EX panels, LG Display will introduce a new, cheaper OLED SE panel with up to 1000 nits brightness in sizes up to 83 inches. It will debut in 2026 TVs.

As revealed exclusively by FlatpanelsHD ahead of CES 2026, OLED SE is designed to move OLED TVs closer to the mainstream. It is part of a broader cost-reduction strategy, which is expected to lower OLED TV prices starting in 2026.

We now have more details on specifications and launch plans of OLED SE.

What is OLED SE?

OLED SE stands for Special Edition and sits below LG Display's OLED EX (LG C5/C6, Philips OLED810, Panasonic Z90B) and OLED META (LG G5/G6, Philips OLED910, Panasonic Z95B) panels. OLED SE is a cost-optimized panel for mid-range OLED TVs that will compete with miniLED LCD TVs. A key change is the removal of the polarizer layer, a costly component, replaced by a new reflective film. Without the polarizer, more light reaches the viewer, boosting brightness, but reflections increase somewhat. While 2026 Tandem WOLED achieves a reduced reflectance of just 0.3%, OLED SE measures 4.4%, which is comparable to typical miniLED LCD TVs, according to LG Display.

LG Display told FlatpanelsHD that OLED SE "retains OLED's pixel-level dimming and core advantages, including superior HDR picture quality, perfect black levels, and outstanding response times, enabling clearly superior image quality compared to LCD TVs in a similar price range". Peak brightness reaches 1000 nits – previously reserved for flagship OLED TVs before 2024 – while color gamut is slightly reduced to 95% DCI-P3. Thanks to pixel-level luminance and color control, HDR performance is still expected to outperform most LCD TVs, including many miniLED models. Unlike earlier low-cost OLED TVs attempts such as LG's A-series with 60Hz, OLED SE supports 120Hz. At the high end, LG Display will also advance OLED with its 2026 META (Tandem WOLED) panels, claimed to reach up to 4500 nits. They will compete directly with Samsung Display's 2026 QD-OLED panels, which are likewise marketed as capable of 4500 nits.

First TVs coming in 2026

OLED SE will initially be mass-produced in 48, 55, 65, 77 and 83 inches. The rollout will begin in February 2026. LG Display is only producing the panels so it is up to TV makers to implement them. These are OLED SE. The panels are expected to debut in Samsung's S85H or another S8-series model. Philips' 7-series is another likely candidate, although Philips has yet to announce its 2026 lineup.
