Samsung Display's 'QD-OLED Penta Tandem' takes on LG's Tandem WOLED

12 Feb 2026 | Rasmus Larsen |

Seemingly in response to LG Display's launch of Tandem WOLED, Samsung Display will begin marketing its top-tier panels under the new 'QD-OLED Penta Tandem' brand.

The trademarked branding was announced today in a press release.

- "Samsung Display unveiled 'QD-OLED Penta Tandem', a new premium technology brand built on its proprietary five-layer organic light-emitting structure, a core innovation unique to its QD-OLED panels," the announcement reads.

Penta Tandem refers to the five stacked layers (penta is Greek for five) of blue/green OLED that operate in tandem, up from four layers previously. In December 2025, LG Display began promoting its own top TV and monitor panels as Tandem WOLED, which use a four-layer structure.

For both TVs and monitors

Samsung Display explained that the QD-OLED Penta Tandem label already covers several monitor panels, including last year's 27-inch 4K panel as well as this year's new 32-inch 4K and 34-inch WQHD panels. The company also confirmed an upcoming 49-inch QD-OLED panel with 5120x1440 resolution.

On the TV side, both 2025 and 2026 QD-OLED panels will carry the new branding, as all of these 55, 65 and 77-inch panels use the five-layer structure. - "Samsung Display plans to expand QD-OLED Penta Tandem across its full range of panel sizes this year, supplying the technology for flagship products from major customers," the company said.

Brighter, longer lifespan

Brands such as Asus, Dell, Gigabyte, MSI, Sony and Samsung Electronics use Samsung Display's QD-OLED panels. An updated list of 2026 OLED monitors is available here. These brands may or may not advertise their products as having QD-OLED Penta Tandem panels. Adding more layers to an OLED stack can improve picture quality, brightness, energy efficiency and panel longevity. Samsung Display claims that QD-OLED Penta Tandem doubles lifespan and reach up to 1300 nits (3% window) in monitors and up to 4500 nits (3%) in TVs. - "Multi-layer organic light-emitting structure is not simply about adding more layers. It requires deep expertise in selecting materials and optimizing their thickness and combinations," said Brad Jung, VP and Head of the Large Display Marketing at Samsung Display. "Penta Tandem, built on nearly five years of QD-OLED mass production experience since 2021, represents the ultimate choice for customers looking to demonstrate the premium value of QD-OLED."
