Starting in the US and initially limited to only a handful of Fire TV devices, the revamped user interface will gradually roll out to users in more countries over the coming weeks.
- "The new UI has a more modern design with improved layouts, rounded corners, redesigned color gradients, updated typography, and more optimized spacing. The update isn’t just aesthetic:
The team rebuilt the underlying code to make the experience faster. In some cases, we’re seeing up to 20–30% gains in speed when using the new UI. All of these improvements will be available to customers with a free software update," Amazon said in January.
The company confirmed this week that the rollout is now underway in the US.
Gradual rollout
The revamped interface will first arrive on Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and Fire TV Omni Mini-LED in the US.
This spring, it will expand internationally to more Fire TV devices, including TVs from Amazon, Hisense, Insignia, Panasonic and TCL. The update is already available on Amazon's new Ember Artline TVs.
Amazon says that the refresh puts more emphasis on content, though it still appears to heavily rely on ads. Users can now pin up to 20 apps to the home screen. Alexa+ is also integrated into the new interface.
There are more than 250 million active Fire TV devices worldwide, but not all of them will receive the new look.
