BenQ has announced an alternative to Apple's new Studio Display with its new 27-inch MA270S, available starting this month for 999 dollars.
The monitor is designed for color and video editing and other professional workflows. It is one of the few 5K monitors on the market today, joining options from Apple, Acer and LG.
Yesterday, Apple launched two new 5K LCD monitors and BenQ's announcement is clearly intended to position the new MA270S as an alternative for Apple Mac users.
5K LCD with DCI-P3 colors
The BenQ MA270S features a 27-inch IPS LCD panel with 450 nits brightness, up to 70Hz refresh, 99% DCI-P3 colors, a low 2000:1 contrast ratio (due to IPS LCD) and 5K resolution (5120x2880 pixels).
It also features 'Display Pilot 2' features to make it behave like a native Mac monitor, according to BenQ. This includes the option to control brightness and audio volume directly from a Mac keyboard.
'Nano gloss' and Thunderbolt 4
BenQ said that it has a 'nano gloss' screen coating. It has two Thunderbolt 4 ports for daisy-chaining of multiple devices – one of them with 96W power delivery.
Additionally, there is USB-C, two HDMI ports, and built-in speakers. The stand has tilt, height, swivel and pivot options.
BenQ claims support for HDR10, but an IPS LCD panel without LED local dimming will not deliver HDR picture quality in any form.
BenQ MA270S will be available starting this month for $999 dollars.
