Sonos Era 100 SL is designed primarily for use at home, including in home theater setups, while Sonos Play has a built-in battery that allows it to be taken on the go.
Sonos is once again expanding its ecosystem of speakers for TV, movies, music and more.
This comes at a time when the company is trying to recover from a self-inflicted crisis that began when older products were cut off from the Sonos ecosystem, and worsened by a failed redesign of the Sonos app.
- "Much of consumer tech promises innovation, yet too often delivers isolation – new devices replacingold ones instead of building on what already works," said Tom Conrad, CEO of Sonos. "We believe a great sound experience shouldn’t reset every time you add something new. It should get better. Sonos Play and Era 100 SL are a clear expression of what Sonos does best – creating products that feel simple on the surface, but are deeply powerful because of the system behind them."

Two new speakers
Sonos Era 100 SL is a cheaper version of the existing Era 100. Specifically, Sonos has removed the microphone in Era 100 SL, like in other 'SL' versions of its products.
The Era 100 series has been positioned as a speaker to serve as rear satellites in a surround sound system and as a stereo pair for music.

The new Sonos Play can also be used in the home but is designed primarily as a portable speaker with a built-in battery that provides up to 24 hours of battery life, according to Sonos. It supports both Bluetooth and WiFi. Play is IP67 water-resistant and has a detachable strap.
Sonos Era 100 SL ($189 / £169 / €199) and Sonos Play ($299 / £299 / €349) will both be available starting March 31.
