After removing its premium video formats amid a patent dispute, Disney+ has now restored Dolby Vision and 3D in Europe.
Update: It is restored in the UK and Europe, except Germany, according to user reports, contrary to Disney's statements. Please share your experiences in the comments section.
In early February, FlatpanelsHD reported that Disney+ had been forced to downgrade video quality, specifically by removing Dolby Vision, due to a patent dispute. 3D movies were also removed from the Disney+ app on Apple Vision Pro, as these are available in Dolby Vision.
The change affected many countries across Europe. At the time, Disney referred to it as "technical challenges".
Dolby Vision and 3D restored
Today, Disney acknowledged that the removal was indeed the result of the German patent dispute with American company InterDigital.
Disney also confirmed to us that Dolby Vision and 3D have now been restored in Europe. FlatpanelsHD has verified on our devices that it works once again. It should also work again in the UK.
- "Dolby Vision and 3D support have now been restored on Disney+. As a result of a lawsuit at a German patent court, we were forced to make changes to the availability of certain advanced video formats in Germany and other markets," the company said in a statement to FlatpanelsHD, and continued:
- "We are disappointed that this was necessary, and we share our customers' frustration. We have worked as quickly as possible to implement solutions that ensure viewers the best possible experience on their devices and subscriptions. As a reminder, HDR10+ has never been available in Europe to date."

Dolby Vision and 3D were unavailable for a little over a month. Disney has not compensated affected Premium subscribers.
