Netflix has not previously shown much interest in cinemas or physical media, but this summer all seasons of Stranger Things will be released for collectors. More to come?
Stranger Things: The Complete Series will be released in partnership with Arrow Films on Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray on July 27 this year.
Two editions will be available, Special and Deluxe‚ with both including all five seasons spanning 25 discs. The Deluxe edition adds a 148-page book, posters and other extras. They have so far been confirmed for North America (Special and Deluxe) and the UK (Special and Deluxe) with prices starting at $143 and £160. Collectors in other regions may need to import them.

Netflix is today known as the world's leading streaming service, but it originally started out in the US as a DVD-by-mail rental service (not Blu-ray), which ran for 25 years until September 2023.
Beyond that, the company has done very little when it comes to releasing movies and series on physical formats. The few titles that have been released have typically been exceptions, where other studios held the rights or licensed the content. There have also been a handful of regional releases on DVD and Blu-ray.
Stranger Things: The Complete Series is different, as it is being released by Netflix itself. The Duffer Brothers, who created the series, want to preserve Stranger Things for future generations.
- "We always dreamed that Stranger Things could be owned in its entirety, not just as a collector's set, but as a way to preserve the show for decades to come," said Matt and Ross Duffer.
It is arguably Netflix's biggest series, now getting a complete, polished release with both physical and digital bonus content, including interviews. It will also be available on UHD Blu-ray in the best possible picture quality with 4K Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos audio for seasons 4 and 5 (DTS-HD MA 5.1 for the other seasons).
More to come?
The announcement has naturally led collectors to ask if more is on the way. Requests have been made for titles such as Squid Game, films by David Fincher (The Killer, Mank) and documentaries featuring David Attenborough.

At this point, neither Netflix nor Arrow Films has commented on future plans, and any decision will likely depend on whether Stranger Things: The Complete Series proves to be a success.
