The new Thomson GoCast 152 features a newer chipset and four times the storage of its predecessor, GoCast 150.
Google has discontinued Chromecast, but Thomson's streaming dongle, launched last year, serves as a kind of replacement with similar hardware and software (Google TV).
Like other media boxes and sticks, it can be connected to any TV via HDMI and controlled using the TV's remote or the included remote. This allows you to upgrade your TV to Google TV with local and international streaming apps, including Disney+, Netflix, Apple TV and HBO Max.
Here comes GoCast 152
One of the main criticisms of Google's Chromecast and last year's GoCast 150 dongle from Thomson has been the limited storage of just 8GB. With GoCast 152, Thomson expands storage to 32GB despite the ongoing memory chip shortage.
GoCast 152 also features a newer Amlogic Y5 chipset, which is slightly faster than the Amlogic Y4 in its predecessor. However, RAM remains limited to 2GB.
It supports 4K, HDR10 and Dolby Atmos audio, but not Dolby Vision HDR, which is reserved for Thomson's more expensive media box, competing with Google TV Streamer.
Thomson GoCast 152 is available now with a suggested retail price of for 80 Euro but already reduced to £63 in the UK.
