Sony launches upgraded 27" OLED featuring up to 720Hz, BFI

Sony's second-generation Inzone M10S gaming monitor features the latest Tandem WOLED panel and supports 540Hz, 720Hz at lower resolution, or BFI at lower a refresh rate.

Inzone M10S II replaces the original Inzone M10S from 2024. It is designed for enthusiasts and professional gamers who seek the combination of fast and excellent picture performance.

We already know the panel. Produced by LG Display, this dual mode Tandem WOLED panel – with Primary RGB Tandem – has already appeared in monitors from Acer, Asus, LG and ViewSonic. Sony has some unique features, though.

Up to 720Hz or black frame insertion

At its native resolution of 2540x1440, the monitor supports 540Hz. The dual mode lets it push 720Hz at half resolution (720p), which is expected to surpass +1000Hz LCD monitors in motion clarity due to OLED's much faster response time o fjust 0.02ms Speaking of, Sony has added an optional Motion Blur Reduction feature with black frame insertion (BFI) to improve motion clarity further. These black frames constantly "reset" your vision to perceive motion as clearer but it can introduce some flicker. This mode is limited to maximum 270Hz at 1440p, but does not halve the brightness level, said Sony.

Additionally, there is a virtual 24-inch mode running at 1080p or 1332p. Sony said that all these things have been developed in collaboration with gaming group Fnatic. The monitor supports up to 720Hz over DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR 13.5) and up to 480Hz over HDMI 2.1. There are USB ports but no USB-C. It does not have built-in speakers either. It comes with anti-glare screen coating while tilt adjustment has been expanded from -5 to 35 degrees, based on gamers feedback.

3-year OLED warranty

OLED burn-in remains a concern for some buyers, but Sony tries to reassure them by offering a 3-year warranty that covers burn-in – much like some of its competitors. It said that the OLED panel has been fitted with a custom heat sink to keep it cool during prolonged gaming sessions. Sony's Inzone M10S II is available for pre-order for $1099 / €1350 / £1199 and will start shipping in June.
