TCL's first LCD models with 'Super Quantum Dots', including QM8L and QM7L, as well as RGB LED models, including RM9L, are now available in the US.
QM8L, QM7L and QM6L are the successors to last year's popular QM8K, QM7K and QM6K, featuring miniLED technology and Google TV. Like the new flagship X11L, which launched earlier this year, QM8L, QM7L adopt 'Super QD-MiniLED' to deliver a wider color gamut – similar to RGB LED.
TCL is also launching its first LCD TVs with RGB LED backlights, alongside Hisense, LG and Samsung, with Philips and Sony expected to follow. TCL's RM9L is available now and a cheaper RM7L will follow alter.
Already discounted
We often highlight that the worst time to buy a new TV is at launch; waiting allows for reviews, user feedback and price drops. It is not unusual for high-end TVs to fall by up to 50% later in the year.
TCL appears to be skipping the initial phase, as it has already discounted the QM8L and QM7L ranges by up to $1000 versus their suggested retail prices. RM9L has been discounted by up to $5000 for the 115-inch version, while the 75-inch X11L flagship is down $3000 from its launch price. See the table at the bottom.
