At SID Display Week 2026, LG Display is showcasing its latest OLED technologies and panels, including 3rd generation Tandem OLED.
LG Display, the maker of all WOLED panels for TVs, monitors and other devices, recently split its OLED lineup into Tandem WOLED (for TVs and monitors) and Tandem OLED (for laptops, tablets, etc.), as reported by Flatpanels here.
We got the 2nd-generation Tandem WOLED panel at CES 2026 in January – first available in LG G6 – and today's announcement relates to Tandem OLED, which has now reached its 3rd generation.
3rd generation Tandem OLED
3rd generation Tandem OLED delivers 500 nits brightness and 1200 nits peak while improving power consumption and lifespan (over 15,000 hours), the company said, adding that it also delivers over 90% BT.2020 colors.
Mass production will begin this year with a panel for cars, before expanding to IT panels such as laptops and tablets. Together with AMOLED from Samsung Display, this will help bring OLED to portable devices where LCD technology still dominates – a transition that will significantly improve picture quality and enable HDR.
- "Third-generation Tandem OLED features 18% lower power consumption and more than twice the lifespan of the previous generation," said LG Display. "This advancement is enabled by a newly developed OLED element that optimizes hole and electron movement to minimize degradation while ensuring uniform picture quality, along with the application of a deep blue dopant to further improve color purity, color reproduction, brightness, low power consumption, and longevity."
Update: LG Display has confirmed to FlatpanelsHD that "the deep blue dopant does not refer to blue PHOLED".

OLED for robots
At SID Display Week 2026 in Los Angeles, LG Display also announced its first OLED solution for 'physical AI', specifically humanoid robots. The panel operates across a temperature range from -30 to 85 degrees Celsius and delivers up to 1000 nits of brightness.
