New 27" QD-OLED panel is faster, brighter and longer-lasting

19 May 2026 | Rasmus Larsen |

Samsung Display has upgraded its 27-inch 1440p panel to the latest-generation Penta Tandem QD-OLED technology. MSI's 271QPX32 is the first monitor to use it.

Ahead of Computex, the 2026 panel has been announced as the successor to the previous 27-inch 3rd-generation 1440p QD-OLED panel currently used in many monitors from various brands.

Samsung Display's Penta Tandem name was introduced in February covering 4th-generation QD-OLED with a 5-layer structure. The 27-inch 4K and 32-inch 4K QD-OLED panels are already under the Penta Tandem umbrella.

Brighter, longer-lasting, fewer reflections

The new 27-inch panel has 1440p resolution (unchanged), 320Hz refresh rate (up from 280Hz) and a 0.03 ms response time – significantly faster than any LCD panel. It does not have the RGB-stripe pixel layout. The upgrade to Penta Tandem also increases brightness (up to 1300 nits, though not yet confirmed for the MSI monitor) and doubles lifespan, according to Samsung Display. A new 'QuantumBlack' film, which MSI calls 'DarkArmor', improves handling of ambient light to reduce raised blacks. It is also harder, making the screen less prone to scratches. MSI also highlighted reduced black crush in VRR mode – compared to tandem WOLED – as well as better panel uniformity.

The MSI 271QPX32

MSI's 271QPX32 is the first monitor to use the upgraded QD-OLED panel, but it is expected to show up in monitors from other brands as soon as next month during Computex 2026. Samsung Display has said it "plans to expand QD-OLED Penta Tandem across its full range of panel sizes this year", so more announcements are expected later, including an upgraded 49-inch QD-OLED panel.
