As promised, Sony has started rolling out a firmware update to bring its wireless audio platform, Direct Connect, and its new My Cinema interface to existing TVs.
Last month, Sony announced the Bravia 9 II and Bravia 7 II models with 'True RGB', which are the first TVs to feature a new Direct Connect platform to let users wirelessly connect up to two Sony Rear 9 or Rear 8 speakers as well as one Sub 9, Sub 8 or Sub 7 to the TV.
In other words, the TV acts as the center and front left/right channels while the rear speakers and subwoofer handle bass and surround duties. It is designed for buyers who want a simple path to deeper bass and surround channels without the cable clutter. It is not FlexConnect but a proprietary Sony solution.

Direct Connect for older TV models
A new firmware update is now adding Direct Connect to the 2023 A95L QD-OLED flagship as well as the 2024-2025 Bravia 5, Bravia 7, Bravia 8, Bravia 8 II and Bravia 9 ranges. These are all powered by the MediaTek Pentonic 1000 chip.
You should be looking for firmware v114.602.030.1 or v114.602.050.1, or later, available now in Europe, North America and other regions.
My Cinema interface
Additionally, the firmware adds Sony's My Cinema interface, which brings together picture and audio settings in a more visually appealing and user-friendly layout, as detailed in our article here.

There are also a couple of other small changes included in the firmware, and it is great to see Sony continue to support and add new features to its older TV models.
