After an early launch in a few regions, Samsung is now kicking off its push into LCD TVs with RGB LED, marketed as 'micro RGB', with R95H and R85H now available in the US, the UK and Europe as a whole.
'Micro RGB' will serve as Samsung's flagship LCD TV technology going forward. It uses an RGB LED backlight behind the LCD panel to expand the color gamut closer to BT.2020, the foundation of modern HDR video standards.
To benefit you will need content mastered and released in an HDR format.
With the launch, Samsung's long-running focus on "QLED" moves into the background, particularly now that the company also offers a broad OLED TV lineup. The 2026 OLED TVs are also imminent.

Samsung R95H and R85H
R95H is Samsung's flagship LCD TV, while R85H brings some of the advantages at a lower price point. One key difference is the number of dimming zones in the RGB LED backlight, a determining for LCD TV picture quality. Samsung generally does not disclose the number of dimming zones.
Competitors such as Hisense, LG, Philips, Sony and TCL are also launching RGB LED LCD TVs this year under marketing names such as 'True RGB', 'micro RGB', and 'RGB miniLED'. These TVs should not be confused with microLED TVs, which eliminate the LCD layer entirely. Samsung also sells microLED TVs, but they remain extremely expensive.
Another difference is that R95H is 'Wireless One Connect Ready'. The TV's ports are built-in but users can add an external box to enable wireless connectivity and gain extra HDMI ports. Both models support HDR10+ Advanced as Samsung's answer to Dolby Vision 2, a format the company continues to avoid.
