Fans of 3D have been eagerly awaiting the 3D release of the third Avatar film. It is now available in 3D 4K HDR on Apple Vision Pro and in 3D 1080p on Blu-ray.
Avatar: Fire and Ash was released for home viewing on March 31, 2026, but the 3D version has only now arrived.
This is actually standard practice from Disney. The 3D version of a film does not appear until the day of its Disney+ release, which happened on June 24. On that same date, the film was upgraded free of charge to 3D in the Apple TV app.
3D in up to 4K HDR
For the best visual experience – better than IMAX or any other cinema format – you need to seek out Avatar: Fire and Ash on Apple Vision Pro, which currently holds the exclusive on the 3D version in 4K and Dolby Vision on a virtual screen that looks extremely large.
On Apple Vision Pro it costs $20 or is included with a Disney+ subscription. However, be ware that 3D and Dolby Vision are currently unavailable on Disney+ in EU countries due to a patent dispute.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is also available on 3D Blu-ray, but limited to 1080p and SDR. The 3D Blu-ray is available now for $50.
The digital version also carries the exclusive on Dolby Atmos, while the disc version comes with lossless DTS-HD MA 7.1 instead.
48fps HFR or not?
While Avatar: Fire and Ash was produced in 48fps HFR and screened in that format in select cinemas, it is currently unclear whether the Apple Vision Pro release is in 48fps HFR.
The first two films are listed as '4K Ultra HD 48' on Disney+, but the third is not – at least not for us. We are seeking confirmation.
