TVs are beginning to adopt MediaTek's Pentonic 800 chip, and all of them are now technically capable of supporting Calman auto-calibration.
It was the embedded support in the first two Pentonic chips, Pentonic 1000 and Pentonic 700, that helped Calman Ready become the de-facto calibration system in high-end and some mid-range TVs.
That success has now led Portrait Displays to expand support to the newer Pentonic 800 platform.
Pentonic 800 support
With Pentonic 800 now supported, Calman Ready will continue to roll out across TVs in 2026 and beyond, so expect to see even broader support in the future.
TVs such as Hisense U8Q, Hisense UR8S, TCL X11L, TCL QM8L (C8L), Sony Bravia 3 II and the upcoming Philips OLED811 are all powered by Pentonic 800. It is important to stress, however, that TV makers must still implement Calman Ready individually – it does not come automatically.
- "As the TV industry continues to evolve toward higher brightness, wider color gamuts, and AI-driven image processing, color accuracy has become more important than ever. We are excited to expand Calman Ready support to the MediaTek Pentonic 800 platform, providing TV brands with an efficient and scalable calibration solution," said Marcel Gonska, VP of Marketing at Portrait Displays.
The Calman app can communicate directly with Calman Ready TVs
Automatic calibration
Calman Ready supports automatic calibration – so-called auto-calibration – of colors, luminance and other paramters using a meter and a pattern generator via the Calman software for Windows PCs. It allows your TV to communicate with the other devices over your Wi-Fi or LAN network.
In a review last year, FlatpanelsHD took a closer look at how the solution works.
