You can finally watch Netflix in 4K resolution – up from 1080p – in the Google Chrome web browser, but only if you are using Windows 11.
Most streaming services are still limited to 1080p or 720p – or even SD on older operating systems or browsers – due to content protection restrictions, including leading services like Netflix.
Until now, the only way to watch Netflix in 4K in a browser on Windows 11 has been Microsoft Edge, or Safari on macOS 11 or later also supports 4K.
Netflix 4K in Chrome
Netflix now also supports 4K streaming in Google Chrome following the release of Chrome version 117. Netflix notes that 4K is only supported in Chrome on Windows 11, not on macOS or other operating systems. In fact, Netflix streaming is still limited to 720p on Chrome for Linux.
However, significant limitations remain and a dedicated streaming device with the Netflix app is still the better way to watch Netflix and other streaming services. Such devices include Apple TV 4K, Fire TV, Roku, Smart TV and Google TV.

For example, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos are still only available through the Netflix app.
Firefox and Opera support Netflix streaming at up to 1080p SDR.
