Sony is rolling out new firmware updates for high-end TV models affected by Dolby Vision and HDMI audio issues following an earlier firmware update.
The issues were introduced in June with firmware v114.602.050.1 or v114.602.080.1, specifically on 2023-2026 Sony models with the Pentonic 1000 chip running Android 14, as documented on AVSForum and elsewhere. FlatpanelsHD has also been contacted by owners affected by the issues.
Models include A95L, Bravia 9 and 9 II, Bravia 8 and 8 II, Bravia 7 and 7 II and Bravia 5.
Sony issues firmware fixes
In August, Sony issued firmware v114.602.170.1 to address the Dolby Vision black screen issue when using an external HDMI player – internal apps were not affected. Users have confirmed that the issue is fixed, but a separate Dolby Vision flickering scan-line issue remains for some.
This week, Sony started rolling out firmware v114.603.100.1, initially in the US, which seemingly fixes the issue with HDMI audio falling out of sync with the picture over time, according to user reports via WhatHiFi. However, an issue with HDMI eARC dropouts may remain. The same firmware should be made available in Europe and other regions soon.
It is good to hear that Sony is addressing the issues seemingly tied to the upgrade from Android 12 to Android 14, but we hope Sony can also eliminate the remaining bugs sooner rather than later.
It is not all bad news with the v114 firmwares, however, as Sony has also added a range of new features, including its new wireless audio platform, Direct Connect, and the new My Cinema interface..
