Faster 720Hz 25" OLED panel announced

LG Display has announced an even faster 25-inch OLED panel as the esports market is transitioning from LCD to OLED monitors.

Last month, Asus declared TN LCD dead when it introduced its first four 25-inch OLED gaming monitors that provide superior response time and picture quality.

Rumors had circulated that China's BOE was the supplier of the 25-inch WOLED panel, but as reported by FlatpanelsHD, it is LG Display. Today, LG Display confirmed as much when it formally announced its 25-inch 720Hz Tandem WOLED.


OLED for esports
Like Asus, LG Display is positioning the 720Hz as the first OLED designed specifically for highly competitive gaming like esports. It features 1080p resolution, 10-bit colors as well as HDR support with DCI-P3 colors and up to 1700 nits peak brightness.

- "The panel realizes the world’s highest refresh rate (720Hz) among gaming OLED displays as well as the fastest response time (0.02ms). Refresh rate refers to the number of times per second a screen updates, so 720Hz means the screen refreshes 720 times per second. The core technology lies in a stable driving algorithm, going beyond simply displaying scenes," said LG Display.


OLED going mainstream
Hyeon-woo Lee, Head of Large Display at LG Display, added that LG Display intends to "lead the mainstreaming of OLED in the global market".

The company has started to take OLED beyond gaming with its first RGB-stripe OLED panels. However, the new 25-inch panel does not feature RGB-stripe pixels, unlike the first 25-inch QD-OLED panels.
