Xbox disc-to-digital is now available to everyone

The feature is now available to everyone, allowing all owners of a newer Xbox console to insert their game discs and also get a digital copy of the game.

The disc-to-digital feature has been in beta since the end of August. As of today, it is enabled on all Xbox consoles for all users around the world.

- "Your discs just got a digital upgrade today! Now, all players can experience the benefits of digital with most Xbox Series X and Xbox One physical discs," announced Microsoft.

No software update is required as Microsoft has enabled the feature via its servers. It works with both Xbox Series and Xbox One, but not game discs from the original Xbox or Xbox 360.


Most games work
An survey among Xbox users shows that more than 80% of all Xbox One and Xbox Series games provide a digital copy, meaning over 1500 titles.

Ubisoft is one of the studios that joined the program during the beta period, and more studios may sign up later. However, it can also go the other way: Game studios reserve the right to revoke digital licenses.

The feature is simple to use. Just insert the disc into your Xbox, which will now automatically grant you a digital license that you can download from the Xbox Store and find in your game library linked to your user account.

If you claim an Xbox One/Series game and later give the disc to someone else, you will lose your license if the new owner uses disc-to-digital. Microsoft has published this FAQ.
