Review: Dell Alienware unveils cheaper QD-OLED monitor

|

Dell's second Alienware gaming monitor based on QD-OLED display technology has AMD FreeSync instead of G-Sync, a slightly lower refresh rate, and a $200 lower price tag.

The new monitor, which will be available this fall, will be known as AW3423DWF and be sold alongside the existing AW3423DW. The 'F' signifies that this is an AMD FreeSync version and it can be recognized by its thinner black design (as opposed to white).

- "Hot off unveiling the world's first QD-OLED gaming monitor earlier this year, we're continuing to expand our QD-OLED offerings with the introduction of a new Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED Gaming Monitor (AW3423DWF)," announced Dell.

AW3423DWF has the same 34-inch curved QD-OLED panel with deep blacks and contrast, a wide color gamut, and 3440x1440 resolution (21:9 aspect ratio), but also the somewhat controversial triangular pixels. It has one HDMI 2.0 and two DisplayPort inputs instead of two and one, respectively, in the existing G-Sync version. In addition, it has a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz instead of 175Hz. These small changes are unlikely to make much difference as QD-OLED's advantages over LCD-based monitors remain, including true 0.1 ms response time and the ability to actually reproduce HDR. Dell Alienware AW3423DWF will be available this fall for $1,100 in the North America, $200 less than AW3423DW. European pricing will be announced later.
