As rumored, there is a new slightly smaller PlayStation 5 console with an attachable disc drive and 1TB SSD storage, up from 825GB. It will launch starting in November.
The biggest game console in modern history is getting slimmer and lighter but it is not exactly a PS5 Slim. Sony said that it has been reduced in volume by more than 30% and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the previous models.

The SSD storage has been upgrade from 825GB to 1TB and there are now two USB-C ports on the front. The other hardware components perform to the same specification, so it remains the direct alternative to Xbox Series X. A more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro is rumored for November 2024.
The disc drive is now attachable/detachable, so you can select the cheaper PS5 Digital Edition and later buy the disc drive and attach it to the side. Or you can buy the standard PS5 with the disc drive already attached and later remove it.
The new PS5 model will replace the current one globally, confirmed Sony.
More expensive in the US
With the launch of the refreshed model, Sony is making the Digital Edition more expensive in the US at $450, up from $400. In other regions, the price increase came in August 2022 on the old model.
- "A variety of PS5 Console Cover colors for the new model will be available starting in early 2024, including an all-matte Black colorway and the Deep Earth Collection colors in Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver. Prices for the PS5 Console Covers will start at 54.99 USD | 54.99 EURO | 44.99 GBP. Additional colors will be released in the future," added Sony.
The new PS5 will launch first in the US in November and more regions in the following months. Included in the price is a horizontal stand but a vertical stand must be purchased separately.
