Sony Google TV official – all the details

We have talked about Google TV several times here at FlatpanelsHD and now Sony has unveiled the first TVs with Google TV built-in on a press conference in New York. Here are all the details about the 4 new Sony Google TVs.

Google TV was announced some time ago but from the start Sony showed great interest in the project. Now the first four Sony flat panel TVs with Google TV have been unveiled in 24, 32, 40 and 46 inches.

The new Sony TVs naturally acts as traditional TVs handling TV broadcasts, DVD and Blu-rays, but the interesting part is how Sony and Google plans to integrate video and other content from the internet through Google TV. You can even watch TV while surfing the web with the picture in picture mode.

Sony Google TV will be launched in the US this year and feature services such as Netflix (movie rentals), CNBC, YouTube, Napster and Pandora. In addition, Sony will incorporate their Qriocity service that lets you stream movies and music. Later, in 2011, a so-called Android Market for TVs will be added.

Sony's four new TVs has an elegant design with a glass front, and a metal stand. All the TVs - except for the smallest 24" model - utilize Edge LED backlights and have 4 HDMI inputs.

Because of Internet features Sony bundles the TVs with a QWERTY remote control. This should make it easy for users to search the web through the integrated Google Chrome browser with flash support. In other words; let you explore the internet freely.

And if you’d rather use your phone as a remote control you can do that. Both Android and iPhone/iPod/iPad devices are supported on the Google TV interface.

Sony’s Google TV models will be available in 24, 32, 40 and 46 inches called NSX-24GT1, NSX-32GT1, NSX-40GT1 and NSX-46GT1. Expect them on the US market later this year and on the EU market in 2011. The TVs have been priced $600, $800, $1000 and $1400, respectively.

Finally, Sony will also release a Blu-ray player with the same Google TV functionality. The clever thing with this box is that you can connect it to existing TVs, and use many of the Google TV services. It’s called Sony NSZ-GT1 and costs $400.
