Sony has unveiled their four new Blu-ray players in Las Vegas. This year’s top of the pop is the new BDP-S780. Sony highlights 3D and Internet features.
Sony BDP-S780, BDP-S580, BDP-S480 and BDP-S380
Sony has introduced four new Blu-ray players, and contrary to Samsung's new Blu-ray players, Sony believes in a more traditional Hi-Fi design.
Sony BDP-S780
The flagship model is BDP-S780 that handles both 2D and 3D playback. BDP-S780 even converts 2D movies to 3D and has Super Bit Mapping and Chroma color processors to ensure better color reproduction and increased detailing, Sony says.
BDP-S780 embraces the internet with access to services such as Netflix, Amazon VOD, Hulu Plus, Pandora, YouTube and Slacker, as well as the new Sony video on demand service, Qriocity. The player also features DLNA with support for video, music and images.
Sony BDP-S580
The two smaller BDP-S580 and BDP-S480 players are 3D players and come equipped with DLNA. The cheaper BDP-S380 has no 3D or DLNA, but all four players feature USB.
Lastly, a Quick-start mode and Bravia Internet Video is mentioned for all models, and starting from the BDP-S480 you can use your iPhone or Android smartphone as a remote control.
Pricing and Availability
Sony BDP-S780 will be available in April 2011 for $250 US dollars. Sony's three other players BDP-S580, BDP-S480 and BDP-S380 will be available from March 2011 and cost $200, $180 and $150, respectively. The players are also expected to hit Europe in March-April 2011.
