Apple released their current 27-inch LED Cinema Display monitor last year in July. Leaked photos from Apple’s own website has now revealed their new version with added Thunderbolt ports.

Thunderbolt is a new type of extremely high-speed ports and cables that can be used to transfer data just like USB today. Thunderbolt can also act as a video signal transfering technology and Apple plans to do just that with their new LED Cinema Display.

The new 27-inch monitor looks largely identical with the aluminum bezel and the minimalistic tilt stand. No pictures showing the back of the monitor has been leaked but one image shows two 27-inch LED Cinema Displays connected to a Macbook. That obviously also requires a Macbook Thunderbolt output and currently the new Macbook Pro is the only one to meet that requirement.

Apple’s 2011 LED Cinema Display is expected to feature a IPS panel with LED just like in the current version.

The new 27-inch LED Cinema Display has not been officially released yet but the Lion background on the monitors in the leaked photos suggest that it will be available with the release of Mac OSX Lion – a release that is imminent. The current 27” version costs 999 USD – a high price for a 27” IPS panel.
