Sony will release new Blu-ray players in April 2012. With the flagship player, BDP-S790, Sony prepares for the next step in display resolution, as BDP-S790 upscales to 4K resolution.
Blu-ray with 4K upscaling
Sony has announced four new Blu-ray players for 2012 and underlines their position on the physical format. In 2012, Sony will add more Internet services for non-Smart TV owners to enjoy.

All models naturally eats CD, DVD, Blu-ray (3D from BDP-S590 and up) but the high-end BDP-S790 also has the ability to upscale Full HD Blu-ray discs to 4K resolution – four times higher than Full HD. Obviously, upscaling is not comparable to real 4K content, but Sony promises that the few 4K display and 4K projector owners will enjoy picture quality improvements.
Connectivity
Sony aims to make home entertainment services accessible. Therefore Sony includes their Smart TV services in their Blu-ray players. Owners of older TV without multimedia functionality can access Sony’s services through the Blu-ray players instead of buying a new TV. The players also offer built-in Wi-Fi to make it even easier.
