Chinese TV manufacturers are gaining foothold in the TV industry, and China's largest TV manufacturer, TCL, has revealed their plans to compete in the high-end segment. TCL has exhibited a 110-inch TV with 4K resolution (four times the pixel count of Full HD).
110" TV with 4K resolution
TCL is China's largest TV maker and in 2011 they overtook Philips in terms of global TV sales share. The next steps are Sharp, Toshiba and then Panasonic, and before long we will probably see the Chinese TV makers enter the European and US markets. But TCL wants to be more than a discount brand and has demonstrated their efforts to gain a foothold in the high-end segment as well.
Chinese TCL exhibits 110-inch 4K LCD-TV
TCL has just exhibited a 110-inch LCD-TV that utilizes 4K resolution. 4K resolution (3840x2160 pixels) offers exactly four times the pixel count of Full HD resolution that is used in almost every TV sold today. It obviously improves detail levels (due to the higher pixel density) but it is also an important step before we can truly appreciate large-format TVs.
And TCL’s TV is truly a large-format TV with its 3.34 square meter surface. Besides the impressive resolution, it also offers active 3D and relies on a backlit LED system.
Right now it is a prototype but TCL says that they have plans to move into the higher-end segments of the TV market. In the coming years they will also enter markets outside of Asia. TCL is already seeing some success in Australia.
