Vizio has been dethroned. Samsung is the new number 1 LCD-TV maker in the US market. Sharp has also taken a huge share of the large-size TV segment, according to the latest market analysis from IHS.
Samsung rises to no 1. TV maker in USA
Throughout 2011, Samsung, LG, Toshiba and Sharp have all seen healthy growth of TV sales in the US market. Vizio has experienced a steep 44 % decline in TV sales in 2011, according to analyst firm IHS (former iSuppli). Sony also saw a 20.7 % decline in sales.

Samsung became the number 1 TV maker in the US in 2011 and accounted for almost one-quarter of LCD-TV shipments – and Samsung is expected to further expand its lead in 2012. Not shown in the graph is Sharp’s market share. Sharp saw a 60 % year-to-year growth based on their decision to focus on large-size LCD-TVs above 60-inches. Sharp even introduced 70 and 80-inch TVs in 2011.
- ”The recent Free Trade Agreement between the United States and South Korea will remove tariffs imposed on Korean firms selling TVs in America,” Tom Morrod, analyst and head of TV Technology for IHS said.
- “Because of this accord, Samsung and fellow South Korean brand LG Electronics are poised to increase their shipments in the United States this year.”
IHS also notes that the average LCD-TV price dropped $16 to $1,032 in the fourth quarter of 2011.
