Flicker-free BenQ GW2760HS to launch this month

We recently explained why modern monitors with LED can flicker due to PWM. BenQ hopes to counter that effect with the latest 27-inch GW2760HS that is “flicker-free”.

Eizo has released the first flicker-free monitor that avoids using low-frequency PWM in order to counter eye fatigue. BenQ also has a flicker-free monitor coming out.

The 27-inch GW2760HS uses a VA panel with LED backlighting. However, the LED backlighting unit does not use the conventional PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) method, which means that BenQ has been able to eliminate flickering and ease stress on the viewer’s eyes. BenQ says that it should work at basically all brightness levels, so you can manually adjust the monitor to your environment without worrying about flicker. The panel uses a screen resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and advertises a 4 ms (g2g) response time.

The monitor is thin and has a modest 11.5mm bezel. The frame is made from high-gloss plastic and the monitor has a typical base without extensive ergonomic adjustment option; only tilting is possible. It can be connected to a PC with DVI, HDMI or D-SUB (VGA). It also has built-in 2x1W speakers and a headphone jack.

Please note that BenQ also has a GW2760HM variant that is different and not flicker-free. The flicker-free BenQ GW2760HS will be available in in USA Europe this month or next. The suggested retail price is $359.
