Eizo launches flicker-free EyeCare monitors

Eizo introduces a range of new EcoView monitors for office and home office users. The most interesting detail is Eizo’s new EyeCare backlight technology that eliminates flicker (PWM). The monitors will be available in 5 versions ranging from 23 to 27 inch sizes; two with TN and three with IPS.

Eizo’s three new IPS monitors and 2 new TN monitors in the EcoView line-up are designed for those sitting in front of the computer for long hours. Therefore, Eizo has aimed to reduce power consumption with a light sensor and a new LED backlight, as well as incorporating a range of ergonomic adjustability options.

The most significant new addition is the “hybrid solution” EyeCare backlight that aims to reduce eye strain for the user. Because LCD monitors with LED backlight use a so-called PWM method to insert small pauses in light output when you reduce the backlight intensity, flicker can occur. Some users can experience eye strain, tired eyes or even headache. Eizo says that they have eliminated the PWM flicker almost entirely, unless you use one of the minimum settings for backlight.

The monitors also use an ambient light sensor to adjust screen brightness to surroundings. Another energy-saving feature is the Presense Sensor that detects if you sit in front of the monitor. Whenever you leave the monitor goes into stand-by and when you return it automatically powers back up.

Eizo will release two TN variants called EV2316W (23") and EV2416W (24"). Panel resolutions are 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 pixels, respectively. Both come with a 1000:1 contrast ratio and a 5 ms response time.

Three IPS variants will be released called EV2336W (23"), EV2436W (24") and EV2736W (27"). Panel resolutions are 1920x1080, 1920x1200 and 2560x1440 pixels, respectively. All three monitors offer a 1000:1 contrast ratio and a 6 ms (g2g) response time. All three monitors also offers built-in speakers and USB ports.
