Curved TVs were definitely a “thing” at this year’s IFA in Berlin. We already knew that TV makers would bring curved OLED TVs, but more surprisingly we also saw a curved LCD TV from Sony. Samsung also exhibited one – with 4K.
Samsung has also curved LCD TV
Sony was first to unveil a curved LCD TV, but Samsung unveiled one shortly after. However, unlike Sony, Samsung has no plans to start selling the TV.

Samsung’s curved LCD TV is just a prototype for now
Samsung’s curved LCD TV has 4K resolution, but Samsung stresses that it is a technology demonstration at the moment. They also tell us that it is actually harder for them to make curved LCD TVs due to issues with uneven backlight distribution. Each pixel in an OLED TV emits light, so it is easier to curve the panel. There is nothing behind it.

Even though Samsung has no plans to sell the curved LCD TV, they have already started selling the curved OLED TV in USA and Asia. Samsung’s curved OLED TV is also coming to Europe in September/October.
