Samsung has unveiled the Smart Media Player with “over 100 apps”, based on Samsung’s Smart TV platform. The media player can also receive broadcast TV. It will be available later this month for $150.
Smart TV in a box
Samsung has basically taken the Smart Hub from its TVs and wrapped it in a media player that you can connect to your non-Smart TV in the living room or a secondary TV.

Samsung says that it offers access to over 100 apps, including Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, VUDU, and YouTube. The platform is similar to that in Samsung’s Smart TVs so if you want to learn more see our Samsung F8000 review. In addition to apps the player also has AllShare (DLNA) and screen mirroring, which requires a Samsung Galaxy phone.

The box has a built-in TV tuner that enables users to receive TV channels via the box with a CableCard and an antenna cable. Samsung highlights the S-Recommendation feature that suggests TV programs based on your viewing habits.
Samsung Smart Media Box (GX-SM530CF) will be available on October 23rd for $150.
Question is; do you want it when you can buy the Apple TV or Roku boxes for far less?
