For the first time, Google is making the Chromecast TV dongle available outside of the US. It is now available in 11 new countries in much of Europe and Canada. More local apps will become available in the near future.
Chromecast is expanding
Google has received much praise for its small Chromecast dongle; a HDMI stick that can be connected to any TV with and HDMI input. It offers access to streaming services such at Netflix, YouTube, and now also Google Play Movies that has just been made available in many more countries. A smartphone or tablet is used as remote.
The full list of new launch countries includes: Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the U.K. Only a few localized apps are available at this point. The UK has access to BBC iPlayer, Germany has access to Watchever, and France has access to CanalPlay, but many more are expected to become available in the near future. Google says that they have sold "millions" of the Chromecast.
