Sony has unveiled their second-generation 4K media player. The new FMP-X10 supports Netflix’s 4K streaming, HEVC decoding, and Sony’s Video Unlimted 4K download service.

Sony’s new FMP-X10 will replace the current FMP-X1. The updated player adds support for HEVC (H.265), which is the next compression standard after mpeg4 (H.264). The addition of HEVC also means that the player will support 4K streaming from Netflix, confirms Sony.
Besides that Sony offers access to its Video Unlimited 4K download service. 50 titles are available at no charge and over 200 titles are now available to buy/rent in 4K, including American Hustle and The Monuments Men. Future titles include Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Annie, says Sony.
Other 4K services include photo services PlayMemories Online and 500px. They will also offer 4K/60p content from the 2014 FIFA World Cup later this year – but only in Sony stores initially.
The FMP-X10 supports up to 4K at 60fps and has one HDMI video output and one HDMI audio output. It has a built-in 1TB hard drive and you can connect additional external hard drives via USB. It alsosupports Dolby Digital Plus audio and Sony says that it offers “our widest color spectrum ever”, without specifying what that means exactly.
