It was introduced last year for $15,000, but improved production yields have enabled LG to drastically reduce the price. LG’s OLED TV has now dropped below $2700 in retail for the first time.
A new low for LG's OLED TV
We already know that OLED TVs can deliver amazing picture quality and LG’s flat model currently holds our Reference Award. It is not the flat OLED TV and it is not the new model with webOS that has fallen to $2699, but instead last year’s curved model.
Still, in our review we found picture quality to be largely unchanged from the 55EA9800 to the new 55EC9300. So, if you can live without webOS you can now buy your first OLED TV for $2699, which is quite amazing considering the price level at launch.
LG continues to lead in OLED TVs as Samsung is struggling to get production issues under control. Samsung has put its OLED TV plans on hold for the short term, but is expected to return later. However, the absence of a second player seems to have had no effect on price competition as LG’s OLED TVs also compete with LCD TVs for consumers’ money.
