Airtame is a small dongle that lets you wirelessly push content from a PC, Mac or mobile device onto the TV screen. After some delays, the product is now finally ready, and more than 10.000 units have shipped to customers in over 100 countries.
Airtame has launched
The Danish team behind Airtame rose to fame after CES 2014 and a very successful indiegogo crowd-funding campaign. Ambitions were high and in the months following the campaign the team promised more functionality and broader device support, but the product was ultimately hit by delays.
Now it’s ready.
The company has shipped more than 10,000 units to customers all over the world. The rest of the pre-orders are expected to ship within 2 to 4 weeks.
Airtame can mirror your PC (Windows and Linux) or Mac desktop to a TV with HDMI wirelessly in 1080p resolution. It can also wirelessly push images and documents from your Android or iOS to the TV. Support for Windows Phone is coming later. The small dongle supports more devices than originally intended and the company has repositioned the product as a solution business and meeting rooms. But consumers are obviously welcome to buy and use it, too.
More capable than the competition
Airtame will have to compete with other products in the market such as Chromecast, Airplay on Apple TV and the myriad of Miracast dongles. However, Airtame believes that their product is more capable and complete. It has more features and has cross-platform support.
The dongle can connect to a WiFi router or establish a direct connection to the host device. It supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi. The dongle has three modes called 'Work', 'Presentation', and 'Video', which are optimized for the respective use cases. Future updates will introduce additional features.
