Infuse for Apple TV gets major update with HD audio, dark mode, more

05 Apr 2016 | Rasmus Larsen |

Ever since Apple released its new TV with tvOS, the team at Firecore has focused on making it a great media player through its Infuse app. A major update for Infuse adds support for HD audio (DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD), a new dark theme, watched indicators, and much more.

Major update for Infuse

Plex and Infuse have arguably become the two best media players apps for the new Apple TV. And both are making steady progress. The tvOS version of Infuse has now reached version 4.1.

First and foremost version 4.1 adds support for lossless 24-bit HD audio up to 7.1 channels, meaning both DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD. If you own a receiver capable of handling HD audio you need to set up Infuse on Apple TV to send uncompressed, multi-channel LPCM to the receiver. There is a guide here.

The update also adds two important user interface related features. A new “dark mode” switches the Infuse UI to dark grey for a better evening watching experience. The new “watched indicators” show unwatched content and the status.

Infuse has also received lots of under-the-hood improvements, including faster scanning and metadata handling. There is a new popup menu (long-press on remote), updated playback controls (press pause on remote before swiping), and lots of bug fixes and performance improvements.

The update is free and your Apple TV should already have downloaded it automatically.
