Loewe launches 'bild 9' OLED with Dolby Vision

01 May 2017 | Rasmus Larsen |

Loewe has launched second OLED range with the new flagship ’bild 9’ – German for picture. The TV has been designed by Bodo Sperlein and marks the beginning of a new design language at Loewe.

”A jewel for the home”

Inspired by the golden twenties and Art Deco, Bodo Sperlein has created a minimalistic TV with the latest in display technology. That is how Loewe has chosen to present the new TV that they believe is “a jewel for the home”.

- "The warm golden shade creates a harmonious contrast with the futuristic, black flat screen. My inspiration was gold's fascination for alchemists. Gold stands for sunshine, light, wisdom, perfection and constancy," said Bodo Sperlein. "I view Loewe bild 9 as a jewel for the home."

bild 9 is Loewe’s second OLED range after the company launched bild 7 in 2016. It will be available in two colors options (Amber Gold and Graphite Grey) and in two formats (55 and 65 inches). The frame is made from metal, laser cut, and then polished. This gives bild 9 a special high-end finish. The screen is just 7 millimeters in depth and cables can be concealed behind a fabric cover.

OLED + Dolby Vision + soundbar

Loewe is not afraid to use big words in describing bild 9. The company says that the TV is based on some of most advanced display technology currently available in the market.

The OLED TV has 4K resolution and HDR. Besides the open HLG and HDR10 formats, bild 9 supports the premium – and proprietary – Dolby Vision format. Loewe’s first OLED TV, bild 7, also supported Dolby Vision.

When you turn on bild 9, it automatically glides upwards to reveal a soundbar. The 120W soundbar has 6 units built in and four passive bass membranes. It also has a 5.1 surround decoder onboard and Loewe recommends that it is paired with the new ‘klang 9’ speakers for the optimal experience.

With the TV, German Loewe will go head-to-head with Danish Bang & Olufsen in the premium segment but Loewe has a head start. Bang & Olufsen has promised to launch a high-end OLED TV this year but nothing has been announced yet.

Built-in apps & 1TB hard drive

An advanced suite of smart features have been built in. You have access to apps such as Tidal, Amazon, and YouTube, but Loewe is more eager to talk about the features relates to the TV tuner.

Like many other Loewe TVs, bild 9 comes equipped with a 1 TB hard drive. It can record TV shows but also functions as a home server, allowing you to share recorded content with other Loewe TVs in the home via the home network.

There are lots of other features built in but the company is using the opportunity to highlight the new Loewe app that extends the TV experience onto a smartphone or tablet.
