Amazon Video was already available on Xbox One in select regions but the app has now been released globally. It gives you access to Amazon’s library of TV series and movies in up to 4K HDR quality.
Video quality in up to 4K HDR
Amazon Video launched globally in December 2016 but the company continued to limit its app on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and some other devices to the “old” regions. The company has slowly been rolling it out internationally on first PlayStation 4 and now globally on Xbox One.
The app gives you access to Amazon’s library of TV series and movies, including The Grand Tour, The Tick, The Man in the High Castle, Transparent, and Mozart in the Jungle.
- ”Starting today, the Amazon Prime Video app will be available for download globally through Microsoft Store,” said Megan Hodel, Sr. Global Product Marketing Manager, Microsoft. “Prime Video members will be able to enjoy streaming of leading TV shows and movies on Microsoft’s Xbox One family of devices, including the Xbox One X, once it makes its global debut on November 7.”
The app streams video in up 4K HDR10 and audio in up to 5.1 DD+. Amazon has yet to make Dolby Vision HDR quality available to international customers.
The app is of course compatible with all versions of the Xbox One, including the upcoming Xbox One X once it makes its global debut on November 7.
Amazon followed in Netflix’ footsteps to launch globally last year but the service is still limited in a number of ways. The company had intended to make its service available globally for a reduced price for the first 6 months only but has expanded the trial period to at least the end of 2017.
