LG confirms AirPlay 2, HomeKit coming to 2018 OLED & LCD TVs

Together with Samsung, Vizio and Sony, LG was a launch partner when Apple announced at CES 2019 that AirPlay 2, HomeKit, and the Apple TV app are coming to TVs. At that time, LG said that AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support would be limited to OLED and LCD TVs from 2019 or later. Owners of LG and Sony TVs expressed disappointment over the companies' decision to limit the features to the latest TVs. There is good news for owners of 2018 LG OLED and LCD models. Details first appeared on a regional support site that has since been edited to exclude any mention of the plans (screenshot). However, LG confirms to FlatpanelsHD that it is preparing a firmware update to bring AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to 2018 models.AirPlay 2 lets you push video, music and photos from an iOS or macOS device wirelessly to the TV while HomeKit lets you control certain TV functions from an iOS device or Siri. The support page detailed that AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support will be coming to 2018 OLED models (B8, C8, E8, G8, W8) and 2018 LCD models (SK and UK ranges), and that the firmware update is "expected by October 2020".
