Panasonic's first Android TVs are now available in Europe

Panasonic's first TVs based on Google's Android TV operating system, rather than its own Firefox/MyHomeScreen platform, are now available in Europe.

The TVs were unveiled in September and are launching now. Panasonic's first Android TVs are known as HX700, HX710 or HX712, depending on your region, and are available in 43 to 65 inches with 4K resolution.

In September 2020, we wrote that "while the TV hardware is pretty basic, the move is noteworthy because Panasonic – like LG and Samsung – has spent years developing and refining its own TV platform. First alone and later in collaboration with Mozilla and its Firefox OS. After Mozilla threw in the towel, Panasonic renamed Firefox OS to MyHomeScreen and continued development".



Will Panasonic launch additional Android TVs in 2021 or perhaps even let Google's TV operating system replace its in-house platform? We will have to wait for Panasonic to announce its plans for 2021 to find out.

Android TVs offer built-in Chromecast, Google Assistant, and more. From the Google Play store, you have access to apps like Netflix, Amazon, HBO, and YouTube as well as Disney+ for the first time in a Panasonic TV.

HX700 has a black frame while HX710 has a silver-colored frame. The TVs are rolling out in Europe now and will be more widely available in the coming weeks.
