China's Skyworth has received a CES 2022 Innovation Award for its W82 product, which is the "world's first mass-produced transformable OLED TV" that can be adjusted from flat to curved.
Transformer
Ahead of CES 2022 in January, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) has announced the winners of its annual Innovation Award competition that honors outstanding design and engineering in consumer technology products.
Skyworth is using LG Display's 65-inch 120Hz 4K OLED TV panel, which is flexible, and has developed its own module to turn the W82 into a transformable OLED TV. It goes from flat to curved with the click of a button.
- "The Skyworth W82 is the world's first mass-produced transformable OLED TV. Equipped with a flexible 4K 120 Hz OLED screen, it allows users to adjust the screen curvature up to 1000R. With a simple click of the remote, the screen transforms to become flat or curved, making it perfect for home entertainment, whether you want to watch movies or play games," announced CTA.

A mass-produced product
It is not the first time that Skyworth has showcased or announced wild OLED TV concepts. At CES 2020, Skyworth announced a wallpaper OLED TV for the US which seemingly never materialized. After CES 2021, the Chinese company was forced to apologize to LG Electronics for unveiling LG's rollable OLED TV as its own product.
Skyworth insists that the W82 is a mass-produced product, but we are not convinced of the benefits just yet. Why would a user decide to make it curved again?

- "We are honored to be acknowledged as one of the best in two competitive product categories in the CES 2022 Innovation Awards. We are extremely proud of the Skyworth W82 and our product design and engineering teams for their explorative spirit, perseverance, and pursuit of excellence to create this technologically advanced product. We will continue to be a driving force for innovation in the TV industry," said Tony Wang, Chairman of Skyworth TV.
CES 2022 takes place from January 5-8, 2022, in Las Vegas.
