MSI unveils 32" QD-OLED monitor with 80Gbps DisplayPort 2.1

04 Dec 2024 | Rasmus Larsen |

The new MSI 322URX, which is the successor to 321URX, will be among the first monitors to feature 80Gbps DisplayPort 2.1.

At first glance, 322URX resembles its predecessor 321URX. It has the same design and the same 3rd generation QD-OLED panel with 1000 nits peak brightness, 3840x2160 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate.

The big news is that MSI's monitor features DisplayPort 2.1 with support for the full 80Gbps (UHBR20) bandwidth – unlike LG and Sony.

Uncompressed 4K 240Hz

With a 80Gbps DisplayPort 2.1 connection, the 322URX can receive a 4K 240Hz signal without needing Display Stream Compression (DSC). In other words, you get an uncompressed video signal and will no longer get black screen flashes when switching between video modes, or run into trouble with multi-monitor setups.

At this time, no consumer GPUs from AMD or Nvidia feature DisplayPort 2.1. Next-generation GPUs from Nvidia with DisplayPort 2.1 are expected to be announced in early 2025. Also read: New Mac mini with M4 Pro features both DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1

USB-C and HDMI 2.1

The monitor is also equipped with other modern ports including two HDMI 2.1 ports (support 4K 240Hz using DSC) and one USB-C that delivers up to 98W power delivery. MSI said that the QD-OLED panel is covered by its 3-year burn-in warranty. The 322URX is so far listed on MSI's website in China for 8499 RMB ($1200) and is expected to reach other regions later. We hope to get an update at CES 2025 in January.
