It means Chromecast devices can no longer connect via a secure connection to Google’s servers, causing the devices to malfunction.
The issue highlights the fact that Chromecast devices only work as long as Google continues to update them and keep its Chromecast servers online. It is unknown whether newer Chromecast devices have a similar security certificate with a 10-year validity.
